Devlog 1- Battin’ for a bruisin’
Using Unity, Dean and I plan to make a game based on baseball that is a mix of the regular sport as well as a first-person brawler. The game plans to work off the idea of getting frustrated at baseball the more you mess up, so the player has a rage meter which fills the more your swings miss and you get fly balls etc. Once this meter is filled the gameplay will change to a first-person perspective where you brawl with the fielders to take control of the bases. This works as a switch-up of the gameplay as well as a chance to catch back up after struggling. The swinging mechanics will be choice based as to whether you swing or not, followed by a quick time event if you pick swing that is similar to the ones in Dead By Daylight that determines whether you hit it or not and whether you pull or push the ball. The game might have a prison theme to coincide with the violence present, and the prison may be filled with funky and strange characters looking to participate in the popular American pastime. This is to symbolise all the very different people that collect in prisons. We plan to do some short comedic animations for cutscenes when the ball is pitched to the player, done with Adobe Animate. Dean already has models he made before that he can customise to further suit the game theme.
